Welcome to "Illustration"

The Illustration course is designed to help high school students explore the creative world of visual art through a variety of exciting projects. Students will learn how to use different mediums and techniques to create polished illustrations that showcase their own unique perspectives and creativity. Projects include illustrating favorite song lyrics, creating expressive animal illustrations, updating famous paintings with modern themes, designing a cereal box for Sea Hunt, exploring color theory through animal illustration, and bringing a new hero to life through illustration. Through feedback and revision, students will refine their ideas and techniques, culminating in polished illustrations that showcase their creativity and understanding of visual art.

#1 - Illustrating Your Favorite Song Lyrics

In this project, students will explore the connection between music and visual art by creating an illustration based on their favorite song lyrics. They will use a variety of mediums to experiment with different techniques and styles, and will refine their work through feedback and revision. The final illustrations will be displayed in the classroom or school, showcasing the students' creativity and imagination.

#2 - Wild Creativity: Expressive Animal Illustrations

In this project, students will unleash their creativity by developing expressive animal illustrations that showcase an animal's unique personality and physical characteristics. They will study and exaggerate the animal's traits, and will develop a story or activity to bring the illustration to life. Through experimentation with different mediums and techniques, they will refine their ideas and create polished illustrations that showcase their own unique perspectives and creativity. The final illustrations will be displayed in the classroom or school, allowing students to showcase their work and achievements.

#3 - Humorous and Modern Redraws of Famous Paintings

In this project, students will take a creative and humorous approach to famous paintings by updating them with modern themes or poking fun at the original artwork. They will research famous artists and their paintings, and choose one to redraw with a modern twist or humorous spin. By experimenting with different mediums and techniques, they will refine their ideas and create polished redraws that showcase their own unique perspectives and creativity. The final redraws will be displayed in the classroom or school, allowing students to showcase their work and achievements.

#4 - Creativity: Designing a Cereal Box for Sea Hunt

In this project, students will dive into the world of branding and design by creating a cereal box for Kellogg's new Sea Hunt cereal. The cereal will feature basic sea shapes as the main part and all of the marshmallows will be sharks, treasure chests, boats, gold coins, and scuba divers. The focus of the cereal box design and personality is a great white shark. By researching different sea shapes and marine life, students will brainstorm ideas for how to incorporate the sea shapes and marshmallows into a compelling cereal box design that reflects the Sea Hunt branding guidelines and target audience. They will experiment with different mediums and techniques to create rough sketches, and ultimately finalize their designs into polished cereal boxes that showcase their own unique perspectives and creativity.

#5 - Exploring Color Theory through Animal Illustration

In this project, students will explore the world of color theory by applying it to their own animal illustration. They will choose one of four color schemes (monochromatic, complementary, split complementary, or triadic) and incorporate it into their animal illustration to create a cohesive and meaningful design. By researching different color schemes and their meanings, students will develop sketches and ideas for their animal illustrations, experimenting with different mediums and techniques to find the best way to convey their ideas. They will refine their ideas and techniques through feedback and revision, all while keeping in mind the tonal value of the design. By the end of the project, students will have created polished animal illustrations that showcase their creativity and understanding of color theory.

#6 - Bringing a New Hero to Life through Illustration

In this project, students will become the creators of their own superhero. They will research and brainstorm different superheroes and their characteristics to understand what makes a great superhero, and then develop their own new superhero. By considering the superhero's abilities, appearance, and personality, students will create sketches and ideas for the new superhero, experimenting with different mediums and techniques to find the best way to convey their ideas. They will refine their ideas and techniques through feedback and revision, all while keeping in mind the essence of the new superhero and tonal value of the design. By the end of the project, students will have created polished superhero illustrations that showcase their creativity and imagination.
